Back in HG:L I loved the cluster rifle. Through most of Elite NM and Stonehenge I would use a fully nanoed cluster rifle due to the awesome effects it had with rebound/ravager rounds. Even with its low listed damage it was still very useful. I only wished there was a higher level version.
Here's the fuzzy memory part. I clearly remember my dreams being answered in the final Test Center patch. There was a gun that acted much like the Cluster Rifle but at around double speed. In the first version of Abyss I clearly remember this weapon having such ridiculous particle effects when Rebound/Ravager both triggered that it would lag my teammates severely (and sometimes even disconnect them with graphic lag) but the damage was definitely worth them yelling at me over voice. Fired at the ground the ricochets (when both rebound/ravager triggered) would form a solid line as it kept bounding, with cluster rifle-type shrapnel firing off to the sides. I could've sworn this gun was called the Thumper.
In later revisions the particle effects were reduced due to the lag generated, but it still acted like a faster Cluster Rifle. But... the Thumper re-added in our Revival 1.5b1 is not the gun I remember. In fact the bullets fired by 1.5b1's Thumper don't even respond to Ravager rounds and look/act more like an RDX Grenade Launcher than a Cluster Rifle. It's very similar to the H666 Hell-Fury Mythic in HGG much to my dismay. I thought it was listed as Heavy Rifle type back then too, maybe not.
Of course I can't find a single video of someone using the old Thumper on HG:L even though there's a few Force Magnum videos around. Am I, and my old guildmates who still remember the devastation, just having a mass hallucination? I really wish I took some vids of the graphic card melting effects of that gun... I miss it.
The TC gave us a shop to buy all the new Uniques to test as well. I didn't think the gun I used was a new Unique... but maybe?
TL;DR did Thumper go through revisions? Am I thinking of a different gun?
