Returned just recently, having a blast with a usual case of "alt-turned-main" Summoner.
Sad to notice the "cookie cutter" builds every step of the way now though,as it's really satisfying for me to run the "alternative" builds most of the time.Running a non-DF (*que gasps and groans*),party-friendly Summoner now, pretty much headhunting and waving my creepy tentacles at imps all day.

Oddly enough, head hunting is what I'm doing pretty much all the time that I play.

I ended up with 5 characters parked at the brick wall of boredom that is Closed Station when someone suggested grinding to level 40 in SH before blasting through 2nd Invasion.

I hadn't thought of that. I'm having a blast doing it, collecting heads, using some of the zillions of essences that I've hoarded, and getting some really nice loot at the same time. I'm having a blast doing it. I will admit that I'm using cash shop XP boosters, but I'm really enjoying getting these characters to lvl 40.

I've just got back into it seeing as how my friend finally decided to pick it up. Rolled a guardian and trying to focus it for two-handers use. Only level 11 so far, though.

Yeah,I think SH pretty much nailed it in terms of replayability.Might as well be the one area that keeps the mid-levels going through the awesome scaling of the Gates, and gets them some decent coin in the process.

Oh and 2h Guardians rock ^^ Early on those things do so much damage it almost felt like cheating lol.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, is it not?

I can't understand how people can play World of Warcraft or Diablo 2, but they do.

I guess HG pushes the right buttons for me still. As does Borderlands to a certain degree. I'm a complete loot whore and FPS junkie. Put the two things together in a game and I'm in serious danger of never seeing daylight again.

WB T. I don't think I will recognize you without minions... but GL with the meat shield  ;D

... and WB to you to Bryan. I still have my poison summy sitting in limbo somewhere. Grinding a Bladie ATM, just to keep my spirits up.... perhaps we shall meet in the game (you'll recognize my IGN  8))

Well I decided to quit playing sometime in August. I'd had enough of seeing what was once my favorite game get ruined by horrible server lag and just overall mismanagement. I voiced this fact in this thread here on August 29th where I talk about the games I was moving on to at the time:

http://www.hellgateaus.net/forum/hellgate-global-general/why-i-haven't-been-playing-hgg-(hint-i've-fallen-for-some-new-games)/

Anyway, with Skyrim on my PC now, and D3 on the horizon, I can definitely say that I won't be back on Hanbit's servers ever again. I actually uninstalled HG from my PC just last week. It's a shame, but there will always be new games coming out. Also I have to say that free to play games just flat out do not work. As long as Hanbit is controlling the HG IP I will not be coming back.

To be honest I think Hanbit is far from the ideal owner of Hellgate, but they're not quite the worst one either. While I do share the view on F2P games,at least this one is not torturing me too much and amusing me just enough to keep me around.
Then again, between real life and late 90s RPGs I haven't really been around lately to say that huh.

Must weigh in for a sec on the F2P bad press, they are not all bad. My wife is still playing LOTRO which went F2P about a year ago and it is doing very well it seems. There is a lot of new content scheduled and their developers continue to communicate with the player base. I don't think the model itself is bad and actually  I think it will be the future for many MMOs. These games (like many things in life) are only as good as the owners/developers decide to make them. Unfortunately with T3/Hanbit we got the bottom of the barrel

I think an issue of many regarding the genre is the economy. Most often the goldsinks are not enough to balance out gold drops/purchases,and constantly pumping items(/currency) out of thin air (mall) into circulation/consumption tends to have...unfortunate results.
In Hellgate context,Act 3 ticket prices should be a decent example. Not a year ago,new players were called to raise 400k-500k for one and now 1 mil is advertised as a bargain.

To connect to the original subject,I should be bringing a friend back into Hellgate soon. Now,if only I can get a ticket at a decent price :P

Yup I like the f2p side of things.  I am unwilling to pay 15-30.00 per month for subscription, but I'm willing to buy a few items from the Premium Shop.

Six weeks after starting this thread, is anybody *still* playing now?

I certainly am. I'm in a friendly Guild that actually has some active members as well  :o

When I first started playing Global, I was gutted to find that my beloved Ploughyard was no more. I really missed repeatedly farming the rare/legendary/epic mobs for those sweet Uniques and top notch Legendaries. It was also the place that I used to get all of my top mods from. Most of all, it was where I knew that I could find the coveted Dunbar's Disruptor if I kept trying. I found at least eight of them there during the brief but exciting life of Hellgate:London.

Now I've discovered that there is a Ploughyard equivalent in Global. Ginza Chuo-Dori is the road that leads to Tokyo base from Parliament Square. Playing in Hell mode, that place is packed with rare/legendary/epic mobs. I haven't found a Dunbar's there (I did get one from Astaroth in the end), but there are plenty of Uniques (Hu's, Nikola's, Duello's, Lee's, Hiki's etc) plus lots of Legendary Twister guns. They're not the top items in the game, but some of them are worth keeping or selling. Especially the Legendaries.

I've also collected over 1,000 Darkstones in nine days. I've now used nearly all of the Nanoshards that I had harvested from the Catacombs (over 3,000 of them) trying to craft a Mythic weapon for my MM. So far I've managed to craft a Mythic pistol for a Summoner/Evoker (which I sold for 1.4 million Palladium), a Mythic shield which I sold for 700k, a couple of low level Yatels Fist's , and an "O'l Sparky"  ::)

Never mind, it's been fun and farming this new area in Hell mode had been a pleasant surprise. Anyone else still playing?

I sometimes think I might be the last from this site still playing Global  :'(
