Who is still playing Global?
« on: January 14, 2012, 12:12:19 PM »
I'm still playing and log-in most days. I have one character at the Tokyo base, but I've been playing Summoner, Engineer, (another) Marksman and Evoker characters and getting them to Closed Station. Each time I get one character there I go back to another one as I can't stomach playing through Second Invasion  :-\

I'll have to get them through that part at some point soon as my Summoner is at Liverpool Street and Evoker is at Monument. I have a MM and Engineer parked at Closed Station waiting. I've also deleted a few characters on both of my accounts.

Is anybody else still playing? There had been quite a sharp drop in the number of players and parties, but that seems to have leveled off now and there are still quite a lot of parties up at certain times. The least I have seen is eight.

I'm not bored with the game entirely, but I don't like the parts between Closed Station and Parliament Square. The Wilds and The Catacombs are still my favourite areas. I could play forever in those places. I'm holding off playing the Tokyo content until all of my active characters have reached there.

I logged today for the last time and gave all my stuff and accounts. It took me 5 tries to send a single goodbye mail because of the crashes and DC so absolutely no regrets.
I ll miss SH, abyss and Tokyo but i can t spend more time in this game when i know it ll die soon and wich is nearly unplayable.

Well, if the game does shut down soon I'll be sad, but I will also be thankful for the 7-8 months that I got to play it again when I never thought I would be able to. I do subscribe to the notion though that T3fun will keep the game limping along until HG2 is released. Somebody was saying the other night that they'd heard that the player base is now nearer where T3 anticipated it to be when they first launched "open beta", which is why the server capacity was so obviously inadequate at launch. I wonder how much it costs to run the game?

Time will tell though. As long as I'm having fun I'll continue to play.

I do, or I try to play it, should I say.

since about 1 week the server gives me crazy lags who makes the game quite unplayable, so....

I'm still on...sometimes.

I'm in the same boat as Hildos. The server problems are making it almost too frustrating to play. I haven't thrown in the towel... yet. Mind you, I've had fun playing since June, so... m'eh.

I've not had too many problems (relatively speaking) with the servers myself lately. I still get the odd massive ping spike that leads to a disconnection, but it happens about once per session at most. At the moment my biggest bugbear is PRD's not working. I'm losing the will to live trying to do the Broker quests with my summoner  >:(

Having to leg it all the way from Liverpool Street to Mark Lane station after every quest is a PITA.

One Saturday in early December i stopped logging in to get my hearts. I must have realized that hanbit didn't have anything more to offer. Once they let us have Tokyo, they "jumped the shark" for me. I ran one char through it then quickly lost interest in moving all my chars up. I hope someday that i will want to log back on and play the toons i spent so much time on, but this wouldnt be the first time I have walked away from my hellgate toons. I quit 30 minutes before cbt shut down. I quit 3 months before the old servers shut down.

I really do miss playing with people tho. And i miss Leitknights.

I agree with Nikkez that the servers will be up at least until hellgate 2, but from what it sounds like, they may as well be shut down for all the care and connectivity T3 has put into this.

I am pretty mad at this point that Hanbit/ T3 have destroyed this game AGAIN! Their sheer neglect of the game server side and community side is really just stunning. With "friends" like this, hellgate doesn't need enemies.

I have no faith in Hellgate 2, because it will be hosted and "supported" by T3.

i stopped playing in November, just lost interest.  Closed station was just a grind.  To get to each of the 4 main sub bosses, u had to slog thru abt 4 portals with a lot of grinding, and I died a lot killing the 1st 2 sub bosses.  I joined parties for the rest.  Each bosses was way to hard, and the final boss was just silly hard.  I didn't have any fun in the fights in closed station.
Went on to Parliament and was semi disappointed.  The Catacombs were sort of fun until the Level boss that u need to defeat and most of the time they split into 3 and wiped my @ss, no fun.  And i was playing in normal mode too.  The abyss bosses were way to hard, and the final 1, Burial?, was ridiculous.  ! MONSTER splitting 1 per every 3 seconds if u die.
I Never got to Tokyo.  Not sure if i do want to go there because its probably designed like closed station.  Too many portals to go thru to reach the main boss, while fighting too many monsters.
I can solo and kill everything thru Syd, including Moloch in normal.  U can't do that in any of the new areas.  I did like the changes that they made to the original part of Hellgate.

Good tip (and worked for me)... when the prd is 'stuck', go to LB station and enter the PRD there. One of the old timers in the guild told me about that one after me going ape-sh** about them not working  ;D

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that for those times when I can walk into the PRD and out the other side again without going anywhere. The most frequent problem for me though is simply getting stuck with the endless loading screen. I must still be in the station because if I leave it long enough I can to hear the station "chatter" again. I have to alt+tab out and kill the process and log back in again. Then I'm back at the station that I'd tried to leave via PRD. It's always the return trip that doesn't work as well  :(

@Belhawk : I agree with you for closed station. Stupid large empty zones with no design or fun.
Although, i highly disagree on th fact they made the game too difficult. Except base defense hell, nothing is a challenge. If you run in underwear covered by chocolate sauce and with a dildo as a sword, sure they re hard ^^. But once you get a minimum of stuff, most of them get OS in nightmare.

What really killed the game for me is the bugs and server problems.

I can add that they kill all the diversity on the builds and char setups. Like it or not, it s crit cap or nothing.

I'm not sure that's completely fair. I never bother checking how much crit I have on any character and I have only ever needed help with Astaroth and the last 2 Abyss bosses. I have only killed the first boss in Tokyo so far but he seemed very easy on Nightmare.

For the perfectionists  and min/max'ers mabye the "crit or nothing" matters. But for most people I suspect that there is enough variety whilst offering an acceptable degree of viability to keep them happy. Maybe I will change that view as I work through the Tokyo content, but at the moment all of my characters concentrate on +% damage as much as possible and I do fine.

At the moment I am concentrating on my Summoner. It's a lot of fun but crazily powerful. With the Warper and Bloodlink it's like having constant access to maximum multishot all of the time. With 13 minions and the Warper, nothing stands a chance. Playing a Summoner and an Engineer right through the base game makes me realise just how gimped the Marksman is in some ways. A young Evoker has it quite hard, but Summon Ember 3 which comes with an easy to find unique blueprint really helps. The MM pretty much has nothing until level 30. And even then it's still a whole lot of kiting, running away, and switching weapons to use Escape. Even strikes are limited to certain situations. A MM isn't a glass cannon, it's a glass BB gun.

If you re playing on NM, sure summoner and low crit is ok. But the goal is to play on Hell isn t it ?

And for MMs, they are the best single target dps, but you need to have good stuff.

Once a MM gets Multishot it's not too bad. But it's a loooong way to level 30. It's still my favourite character and that will never change because FPS is my game and has been since the days of the original Quake, which is the game that got me interested in games of any kind.

Engineer is great fun but it's like a MM on trainer wheels. The Drone and Rocket Bot make things a lot more easy, particularly in the early levels. Once you can mount a decent enough gun and Warts Leg on the Drone it becomes a bit of a breeze for the most part. A lot of it is down to the fact that enemies will attack the Engineers Drone and the Summoners Minnions a lot of the time, leaving you to play a cameo role and add your damage. This is particularly so with the Engineer. As long as you can heal your Drone/Demon, you're laughing.

One thing that is unbalanced is that Engineers and Summoners can use 2 x 2 handed guns to summon their main sidekicks so that they're so much stronger than their current skill level alone permits. That extra strength remains even when switching back to main weapons. A Marksman is limited to switching weapons mid combat to bolster strikes, usually leaving him with crappy guns for a few seconds.

Marksman is my favorite though, with the BM and Guardian being the polar opposite. I do have some interest in trying out a "Gundian" which I will probably get round to doing soon. I understand that "crit" is important in that kind of build, along with Nova's?

Once again, the gundians with novas seems to have lost all their powers. Even in NM, novas are nearly useless. I know a lot of people that tried gundians and finally decided to go for the regular sword + shield tanky build. ( take note that guardians don t yhave access to the last +crit pvp achievement for unknown reason )

You really explained what i miss the most in Global version of the game. Fun and original builds that can works when you invest a lot into them. We made a LOT of tests towards the most efficient way to make uber dps and we all came to the conclusion that crit is THE cookie-cutter for all profs. Summoners can t crit, that s why they are so low on dps on Hell :(
