Monsters' armor: How do they work?
« on: November 24, 2011, 07:12:40 PM »
Since i saw all bosses HP goes down faster and faster while we shoot them, i have an impression that the monsters armor works like its HP, if we damage it, it starts to negate then if the mob heals up (like Lilith, Nahema, Beral, Desiccator or Moloch) we can take its HP down much easier->the monsters armor doesn't regenerate. This would explain that wierd situation when we shoot dessi for 5 mins with no success, then he suddenly "give up" and die like a dog in 2 sec from full hp.

Is there anyone who have more accurate information about this?

Monsters' armor rating works very similar to player armor ratings, actually. You can test this via soloing and taking note of the damage you deal on a NORMAL hit... and then figuring out how much damage you dealt was reduced by their damage reduction rating.

If I recall correctly, "Natan" has a rather high DR% on Normal mode... something around 75%.

Bosses like Lilith, Dessi and Moloch all use some type of script that causes them to go through "phases". It's still possible to kill them early. But that of course gets harder to do on Nightmare and Hell difficulty.

Also, if I recall correctly... armor in Hellgate starts to go down from continuous damage/heavily focused fire. The longer you are taking damage without a "breather", your damage reduction rating will start to scale down versus damage. I think the breather period is like 2-5 seconds. I also seem to remember that the UI never shows this... so it doesn't help to keep your status window open while you're taking a continuous beating.

Anyway, I am pretty sure the above also applies to monsters.
