Found this on Torchlight forums, and it works pretty well with Hellgate :)

I tried it out myself, it does work. I'll admit that it does help alleviate some of the annoyance on my behalf concerning the lack of the 2.0 TC graphics improvements missing from Global/Resurrection.

I'm surprised it also doesn't cause that much of a performance drop.

no need to be surprised.  The shaders/shadows all load on the CPU/RAM instead of the GPU/VRAM.  This is why people experience hard lag when playing HG:G.  The renderer of HG:G also doesn't utilize more GPU/VRAM when more is going on.  hopefully one day all this will be remedied but highly doubt it.

I think 1.2 graphics are very bad and buggy :/ Could a chance for 2.0 graphics ?
